# Weighted sub-scores (each 0–10)

score_10 = (regulation × 0.25) + (fees × 0.20)

+ (platform × 0.15) + (trust × 0.15)

+ (ux × 0.15) + (markets × 0.10)

star_rating = score_10 / 2 # → 0–5 stars

All sub-scores normalised to 0–10 before weighting. Final star rating is score ÷ 2.

Scoring Criteria

How each of the six factors is measured and why it matters.

Regulation

25%

We evaluate which regulators oversee each broker. Tier-1 licences (FCA, SEC, CFTC, ASIC, MAS) score 2 points each. Tier-2 licences (CySEC, FSA, FSCA, DFSA) score 1 point each. Scores are capped at 10.

EXAMPLE

A broker holding FCA + ASIC licences scores 4 regulation points → normalised to 10.

Fees

20%

We score spreads (0 pips = 10 down to ≥3 pips = 0) and commissions ($0/lot = 10 down to ≥$10/lot = 0), weighted 60/40. Lower total trading costs = higher score.

EXAMPLE

EUR/USD spread of 0.6 pips with $0 commission → fees score ≈ 9.1/10.

Platform Quality

15%

Points are awarded for MT4, MT5, TradingView support, mobile apps and proprietary platforms. Each supported platform adds to the score (capped at 10).

EXAMPLE

Offering MT4 + MT5 + TradingView + Mobile App → platform score 8/10.

Trust & Longevity

15%

Brokers operating 7+ years score 10. 3–6 years score 6. Under 3 years score 3. Unverified founding dates score 3 by default.

EXAMPLE

A broker founded in 2010 (15 years) → trust score 10/10.

User Experience

15%

Manually assessed by our editorial team on a 0–10 scale. Considers ease of account opening, customer support quality, educational resources and overall UI polish.

EXAMPLE

Instant account opening, 24/7 live chat, rich academy → UX score 8.5/10.

Market Variety

10%

Brokers offering 5+ asset classes score 10. 3–4 asset classes score 6. 1–2 asset classes score 3. Zero listed markets score 0.

EXAMPLE

Forex + Stocks + Crypto + Commodities + Indices = 5 classes → markets score 10/10.

Our Review Process

Five stages from raw data to published ranking.

1

Data Collection

We gather structured data for each broker: regulatory licences, fee schedules, supported platforms, available markets and company history. Data is sourced from official regulatory registers, broker websites and third-party financial databases.

2

Algorithmic Scoring

Each broker is scored across six criteria using our weighted formula. Sub-scores are normalised to 0–10 before weighting. The algorithm runs automatically every 24 hours so scores reflect the latest data.

3

Editorial Verification

Our editorial team manually checks key fields — regulation status, spread accuracy, platform availability — and flags anomalies for correction. High-traffic broker pages receive additional human review.

4

Content Generation & Review

Broker overviews, pros/cons and comparison summaries are generated from structured data and reviewed for factual accuracy. No content is published without passing our editorial checklist.

5

Ongoing Monitoring

Regulatory changes, fee updates and platform launches trigger automatic re-scoring. We monitor official regulator feeds and broker announcements to keep data current.

Editorial Independence

BrokerRank earns revenue through affiliate partnerships — when you click through to a broker and open an account, we may receive a commission. This never influences rankings.

Our algorithm scores every broker objectively. No broker can pay to improve their position, and we apply identical methodology to all brokers regardless of commercial relationship.

AI-generated content (broker overviews, comparison intros) is grounded in our structured database — never fabricated. Factual fields (fees, regulation, platforms) are verified by our editorial team before publication.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Does BrokerRank accept payments to improve a broker's ranking?

No. Rankings are determined entirely by our scoring algorithm based on objective data — regulation, fees, platforms, markets, trust and UX. No broker can pay to improve their position. We may earn affiliate commissions when you open an account via our links, but this never influences scores or rankings.

2

How often are broker scores updated?

Broker scores are recalculated every 24 hours via our automated pipeline. Pages are served via Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR) with a 24-hour revalidation window. AI-generated text fields (overviews, comparisons) are refreshed on a 7-day cycle.

3

How are new brokers added to BrokerRank?

Our editorial team manually reviews and adds brokers based on market relevance, user demand and data availability. Each new broker undergoes the same scoring process as existing ones. We currently cover hundreds of brokers across forex, crypto, stocks and CFDs.

4

What is the difference between Tier 1 and Tier 2 regulators?

Tier-1 regulators (FCA, SEC, CFTC, ASIC, MAS) are the most stringent financial authorities, requiring capital adequacy, client fund segregation and regular audits. Tier-2 regulators (CySEC, FSA, FSCA, DFSA) provide meaningful oversight but with less stringent requirements. Unregulated brokers receive zero regulation points.

5

How is the final star rating calculated?

Each criterion is scored 0–10, then multiplied by its weight (e.g. regulation × 0.25). The weighted scores are summed to produce a 0–10 total, then divided by 2 to give the final 0–5 star rating displayed on broker profiles and ranking pages.

6

Can I suggest a broker to be reviewed?

Yes — contact us via the site with the broker's name and website. Our team will evaluate it against our standard criteria and add it to the database if it meets our minimum coverage requirements.
